My feet hurt!

Well, today I finally met several of my teammates, as I did my first real training walk since July. Yes, less than a month to go, and I’m finally training! Hey-at least I’m doing better than last year already.

We walked an easy (ok, not so easy because there were some hills involved) 10 miles today. And, you know what? My feet hurt. Lol. It’s ok though, I’d rather get all the blisters and everything out of the way now, instead of during the 3-day. I did realize I need new socks though, and need to make sure I put the fancy insoles back into my shoes.

What’s next? Well, we have the 4-mile Making Strides walk tomorrow, where I get to try to break in my new pink shoes (don’t worry, we’ll be taking pictures). That will be fun, as Mary, Devin and I are walking.

Next weekend is the big training weekend-18 miles Saturday, 15 miles Sunday. That’s a lot like the 3-day itself (the route is not always 20 miles per day, it can be more or less, plus some walking at camp is figured in as well). So, that will be both a good gauge on how painful the walk will be. Remember, it was Day 2 for me last year that was the most difficult, because you’re sore from Day 1′s walking. (On Day 3, you’re just excited because it’s the last day.)

I also sold a few calendars today, so that helps. I have plenty more to sell though, so if you’ve ever wanted to see me and 11 other guys semi-nude, here’s your chance! Just contact me for details.

Getting anxious!

I’m getting very anxious! Thanks to a couple generous friends, I am getting closer to minimum fundraising amount…BUT…I’m still pretty far away! Again, you can help by donating at on my personal page-anything is greatly appreciated!

I’ve started to accumulate the things I need for the walk-sunglasses (see pic!), sleeping bag, shirts, shoes, charger for my iPhone so I can blog about the experience in real time…lots of goodies!

Tomorrow, I go for my first training walk with members of my team (OB Walkers-Breast Defenders)-a 10-mile walk! Sunday is a mere 4 miles, the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk. That one I get to do with my lovely girl, Mary, and our Devin. I can’t wait!

One month to go!

Ok, please bear with me, I’m doing this update from my phone (as I’ll be doing during my walks as well!)

One month from today is the Arizona 3-day. Incidentally, I started training again today, with a new (pink) pair of shoes even-hey, a month of actual training is far more than I did last year at least! I have a walking partner (my beautiful girlfriend Mary, and of course Devin as well!) during the week.

Fundraising…that’s a different story…I am still $1394 from my fundraising minimum-I need help! Please, if you can donate anything (and I mean ANYTHING), visit my personal page and donate. You can donate online via credit/debit, or you can mail a check in by printing the donation form at the bottom. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

As far as other preparation steps go, I’ve bought several things for the walk (the shoes, t-shirts, sleeping bag, etc.) and am getting very excited. My favorite thing so far is my pink tuxedo t-shirt, it just may be my absolute favorite shirt!

Sadly, for my San Diego Walk, I never had anyone sign up for my team, so I joined another team. A huge team. Last year, I was on a team of 2, for Arizona, I’m on a team of about 5-I wanted a huge team experience! The “OB Walkers-Breast Defenders” even has a legitimate shot at being the biggest team, and for having raised the most money, for the SD Walk. Should be fun. We’re even calling our section of camp “Hooterville” and setting it up like a city. I’ve got to figure out what my tent will be (we’re 2 of only 3-4 guys on a 50-person team…maybe our tent is the Police Station? Maybe an “All Male Review”? Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas, and how to make that for our tent?-I’m open to suggestions.)

And, last but not least, Mary, Devin and I will be doing the Making Strides For Breast Cancer Walk this Sunday. Should be fun!

A good read

Found this on Google News, thought I’d share for anyone who may have missed it.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/10/09/war.breast.cancer/

It’s a good read and offered me some positive vibes this morning, which was good. I’m now 35 days away from my first 3-day of the year (Arizona) and still $1444 short. That’s $41.26 I still need to average every single day to reach my goal before I walk! It seems rather daunting.

Please donate at http://www.the3day.org/goto/LukesArizonaWalk and help me make this a reality!
